Hogenakkal Falls is located in the Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu on the river Kaveri.Referred to as the “Niagara of India” at times, the falls is famous for its medicinal baths which claims the water to be carrying medicinal properties needed to cure diseases. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in South India. Carbonatite rocks found near the waterfalls are one of the oldest rocks in the world.The force of the water on the rocks gives a smoggy effect to the whole place.

Hogenakkal Falls comes to life after the rainy season which is during the months of November and December. This is the time when there is abundance of water flowing in the falls and makes the whole trip truly memorable.
The round boat ride is one of the best things to do at the falls. The boat ride commences with a 20 minute ride after which a walk of 15 minutes gets you to the next course. From there, you are taken near one of the small waterfalls in the area. A total of 4 people can be seated in the boat and it takes about an hour to complete the round trip.
There are spots for tourists to bath under the falls. Though the place is usually very crowded, you can get a good time to bath during the start of the season. During the month of November when monsoon starts, not a lot of people visit the place and hence there is considerably lesser crowd which makes bathing a more enjoyable experience.
The sight of an abundance of water flowing down rocks with a thunderous noise is simply amazing. The Kaveri River which splits into many channels and flows makes the place mesmerizing in its peak season. Melagiri Hills near the falls gives a spectacular view of the entire place. A must visit for amateur and professional photographers.

The good time to visit Hogenakkal falls is February to relax near the waterfalls and during winter i.e from October.During winter the place is pleasant and climate is moderate throughout the day.
How to Visit Hogenakkal Falls
Hogenakkal Falls is about 180 kilometers away from Bangalore and 45 kilometers away from Dharmapuri town. From Bangalore the NH7 to Dharmapuri which passes thorough Hosur and Krishnagiri will lead to the falls. The nearest railway station to the falls is the Dharmapuri Railway Station which is about 40 kilometers away. Hogenakkal Bus Stand is the nearest point from the falls and buses are operated to cities and towns nearby.
